LOS ANGELES, CA (October 11, 2014) – For the momentous fifth year, Veuve Clicquot welcomed more than 5,000 Angelenos, celebrities, and polo enthusiasts to the beautiful Will Rogers State Historic Park to celebrate with champagne and enjoy the highly anticipated Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Los Angeles. World-renowned polo player Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier, along with Vice President of Veuve Clicquot U.S. Vanessa Kay, welcomed a glamorous crowd for a day of polo watching, picnicking and champagne sipping. Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Will Rogers State Historic Park, the Will Rogers Polo Club, and the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation was once again the partner and beneficiary of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Los Angeles.

Proudly bringing back the sport of polo to the grounds of Will Rogers State Park for the fifth year, Veuve Clicquot continued its efforts to keeping the tradition of polo alive in Los Angeles and supporting one of the last grass polo fields in the area. The park, set in the hills of the Pacific Palisades, once served as the home to polo matches amongst the stars, including Will Rogers himself as well as Walt Disney, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, and Douglas Fairbanks. This year’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Los Angeles gave the crowd a unique and exciting experience that embodied the glorious days of style and polo that thrived in the city of Angels in the 1920’s and 1930’s.

“Veuve Clicquot is proud to keep the tradition of polo alive on the historic grounds of Will Rogers State Park,” says Vice President of Veuve Clicquot U.S. Vanessa Kay. “Each year, the momentum and excitement for polo grows, and it is exciting to bring the event back with new twists and consumer experiences.”

The event officially began with award winning singer and songwriter and former “The Voice” contestant, Roem Baur, kicking off the match with a powerful rendition of the national anthem, and Christina Hendricks throwing out the ceremonial polo ball toss to start the game. In addition to Christina Hendricks and her husband Geoffrey Arend, Veuve Clicquot welcomed a bevy of stars as polo spectators and champagne lovers including Rashida Jones, Anna Faris, Rosario Dawson, Tony Goldwyn, Scott Foley, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita, Lauren Conrad and husband William Tell, Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman, Hannah Simone, Joe Jonas, Alison Pill, Angela Lindvall, Rachel Roy, Sanaa Lathan, Langley Fox Hemingway, and more.

This year’s match was fast paced with a few exciting surprises; announcer  Mike Jordan kept spectators on their toes while they watched Team Black Watch challenge Team Veuve Clicquot on the field. Team Black Watch, captained by Nacho Figueras, included Tom Barrack, Rico Mansur, and TJ Barrack, while team Veuve Clicquot was captained by Marcos Llambias and included Bash Kazi, Patrick Uretz, and Santiago Mendez. The MVP was awarded to Nacho Figueras who lead his team to a ten to seven victory.

For the second year, Veuve Clicquot offered guests two unique ticketed experiences. The elegant VIP Clicquot Picnic, a chic party on the shaded south side of the polo field, offered gourmet picnic lunch for two, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne, premium views of the match and specialty Veuve Clicquot items. All guests in the VIP Clicquot Picnic enjoyed a luxury picnic basket curated by Wolfgang Puck Catering filled with seasonal picnic fare created perfectly to pair with Veuve Clicquot champagne. The three-course menu featured a snack course of farmer’s market berries and roasted nuts with rosemary, dried pineapple, and chili flakes, a lunch course of Tandoori spiced chicken breast with chilled cucumber and chili herb salad, a chilled filet mignon sandwich, a Vietnamese tofu bahn mi, pickled yellow and pink beets with goat cheese and a toasted faro salad. For a sweet finish, guest enjoyed a choice of mini pecan with bourbon caramel or mini white peach and basil pies.

Located on the sprawling grassy north side of the field, General Access ticket holders picnicked on the legendary polo grounds, sipped champagne from multiple Veuve Clicquot champagne bars and dined on gourmet bites from Los Angeles’ best food trucks. Veteran favorites included Baby’s Badass Burger, Coolhaus, India Jones Chow Truck, Sweet E’s, and event newcomers Cousin’s Maine Lobster, Dogtown Dogs, Green Truck, Jogasaki Sushi Burrito, Kogi BBQ, Meat the Greek, and Tango Mango Ice. While live music from Vinnie & the Hooligans played throughout the day, guests created memories in the Gif booth, snapped selfies for the #ClicquotStyle sweepstakes, and competed in games on the lawn. Picnic essentials, including blankets, hats, beach towels, fans, sunglasses and more were available for purchase.

Always attracting a fashionable and stylish crowd, guests of the fifth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic donned classic polo style, further bolstering the event’s reputation for creating unforgettable fashion-forward moments. Veuve Clicquot took style one step further this year with the launch of a partnership with beloved footwear designer Charles Philip Shanghai. During the event, guests were able to browse and purchase flats from the capsule shoe collection that were designed specifically to go from the field to the after party. The dapper male guests purchased the men’s slipper designed in a black and white herringbone pattern with a removable pocket square in Veuve Clicquot’s iconic yellow hue, and women clamored to purchase the ladies’ flats adorned in Veuve Clicquot yellow with classic black tassels.
