PORTLAND, Ore. (June 4, 2013) – adidas today announced the official player roster for adidas EUROCAMP, the most prestigious international pre-NBA Draft camp featuring top basketball players who will showcase their skills during the three-day event in Treviso, Italy June 8-10, 2013.

In its 11^th year, adidas EUROCAMP provides a global stage for the top international prospects to practice, compete and interview with NBA teams and other professional leagues leading up to the NBA Draft.  Players will also attend clinics and learn from current and former NBA coaches and players including Flip Saunders (Minnesota Timberwolves), Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets), Serge Ibaka (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Omri Casspi (Cleveland Cavaliers).

More than 45 early entries and NBA Draft-eligible participants, including projected 2013 NBA Draft picks Rudy Gobert (France), Lucas Nogueira (Brazil) and Nemanja Nedovic (Serbia) will participate in adidas EUROCAMP 2013.  Former adidas EUROCAMP participants include 62 NBA Draft picks and including Danilo Gallinari, Nicolas Batum, Andrea Bargnani and Omer Asik.  23 former participants currently hold NBA contracts with 57 playing in Euroleague Basketball.  In 2012, seven adidas EUROCAMP players were selected during the NBA Draft including first-round pick Evan Fournier of France – the No. 20 overall selection by the Denver Nuggets.

Houston Rockets director of scouting and adidas EUROCAMP camp director Arturas Karnisovas, and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach and adidas EUROCAMP coaching director, Bill Bayno, return for their second year.  In addition, several NBA assistant coaches will join the adidas EUROCAMP coaching staff including Kenny Atkinson (Atlanta Hawks), Kelvin Sampson and Chris Finch (Houston Rockets), Armond Hill (Boston Celtics), Kaleb Canales (Dallas Mavericks), Melvin Hunt (Denver Nuggets), Eric Hughes (Toronto Raptors), Jim Boylen (Indiana Pacers) and Maz Trakh (Oklahoma City Thunder).  Also coaching will be Ilias Zouros (former Greece national team head coach) and Sarunas Marciulonis (Olympic gold medalist and former NBA player).
Teams also participating this year include the under-18 adidas USA Select, the under-20 men’s basketball national team from France and the under-19 men’s national team from Serbia.  For the first time, adidas EUROCAMP Next Generation, an elite program to enhance both on-court and life skills, joins the event and features the top under-16 European players.  Dimitris Itoudis (former Panathinaikos BC assistant coach and European professional basketball player) and Marcelo Nicola (former European professional basketball player) will attend as coaches for adidas EUROCAMP Next Generation.

NASHVILLE – Country music’s hottest stars stepped up to the plate to strike out cancer at the 23^rd annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge at Greer Stadium during the CMA Festival. Players included Florida Georgia Line duo Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, Kree Harrison, Scotty McCreery, Phil Vassar, Lauren Alaina, Jonathan Jackson, Craig Campbell, Brett Eldredge, Maggie Rose, Chuck Wicks, Scott Hamilton and more.

The City of Hope celebrity softball game is a yearly tradition at CMA Festival and raises valuable funds for lifesaving cancer research. 2013 marks City of Hope’s 100 year anniversary and the support from the country music community allows for continued care and discoveries.

-        To open the game Kree Harrison, hot off her success on American Idol, sung the National Anthem.

-        Bringing home two CMT awards earlier in the week, Florida Georgia Line brought their A-game for the Grand Ole Opry team, batting in multiple runs.

-        Jonathan Jackson from ABC’s drama Nashville proved he can play music and baseball, hitting two powerful line drives.

-        The girls were not afraid to get down and dirty as Lauren Alaina slid into home late in the game.

-        City of Hope cancer survivors and patient honorees, John Cloer and Hannah Komai, enjoyed the attention from all the country stars.

New York, NY, June 10, 2013- – Swatch launched its Scuba Libre collection with a two-day celebration, along with its support of the City of New York Parks & Recreations’ Swim for Life program: Swatch looks at things under a different angle!

Swatch made a substantial donation to this program in an effort to enrich the lives of 500 elementary school children with Swim for Life’s 10-week water safety education course. Swatch has partnered with the NYC Parks Department in an effort to bring out the “Scuba Libre attitude” of confidence both in and out of the water. While Nacho Figueras was unable to play in the match due to an injury he sustained while playing polo several weeks ago, another Figueras, his son Hilario, stole the show on the polo field. Team Black Watch beat team Nespresso 8-6 with Hilario Figueras scoring three goals. Other event highlights included Norm Lewis’ incredible crowd-pleasing rendition of the National Anthem, Dree Hemingway having fun throwing the ceremonial first toss-in of the polo match, Rosario Dawson and her mother getting down on the dance floor to the sounds of DJ Nick Cohen and Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila stomping divots during half-time.

Over 3,000 thousands of bottles of Veuve Clicquot—classic Yellow Label and Rose—were enjoyed, which paired perfectly with the innovative cuisine by Pinch Food Design served in the VIP Marquee.  To pay homage to Veuve Clicquot’s longstanding connection with Russia, the VIP marquee was reminiscent of a Russian garden party, complete with decadent chandeliers, onion-shaped domes, babushka dolls, lush flowers and greenery. Guests dined on caviar, smoked salmon blinis, beef stroganoff, bundt cakes and more Russian-inspired fare.  During the Napoleonic Wars of the 19^th century, Madame Clicquot went to great lengths to ensure cases of Veuve Clicquot made it to Russia in defiance of Napoleon’s trade embargo. Madame Clicquot’s surreptitious efforts paid off as Russia became one of the largest markets to enjoy Veuve Clicquot champagne. The Russian court became so fond of Veuve Clicquot, the common word used for champagne was simply “widow” in honor of the widow Madame Clicquot.

What: On May 30, 14-year-old Youth Disabilities Advocate Lucy Meyer will host an event showcasing the 2013 UNICEF State of the World’s Children Report on Children with Disabilities featuring Patrick McClenahan, President & CEO of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles; and Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Across the developing world, children with disabilities are excluded from school, hidden by their families, and abandoned by their governments. They are denied access to education, health care, and other lifesaving services. Children with disabilities are three to four times more likely to be victims of violence, and they face discrimination and prejudice on a daily basis.

NEW YORK (May 30, 2013) – Children with disabilities are the least likely to receive health care or go to school, according to UNICEF’s 2013 State of the World’s Children report, released today. They are among the most vulnerable to violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect, particularly if they are hidden or put in institutions—as many are because of social stigma or the economic cost of raising them.

The combined result is that children with disabilities are among the most marginalized people in the world. Children living in poverty are among the least likely to attend their local school or clinic, but those who live in poverty and also have a disability are even less likely to do so. Children with disabilities are at a much greater risk of malnutrition and face difficulties accessing clean drinking water, basic sanitation, and other essential services. Gender is a key factor, as girls with disabilities are less likely than boys to receive food and care.

In addition, children with disabilities are three to four times more likely to be victims of violence, and in many countries, they are significantly more likely to experience abuse at home. According to the annual flagship report, girls with disabilities are routinely subjected to forced sterilization or abortion. “Today, all across the developing world, children with disabilities are being discriminated against, denied access to an education, abused, and even forced into servitude—gross violations of their rights. Our world will be a better place when all children, everywhere, can live out their dreams and contribute their many talents to society,” said Caryl Stern, president and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

About one third of the world’s countries, including the United States, have failed to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The report urges governments to ratify and implement the Convention, to keep their promises to guarantee the equal rights of all their citizens—including their most excluded and vulnerable children—and to support families so that they can meet the higher costs of caring for children with disabilities.

There is little accurate data on the number of children with disabilities, what disabilities these children have and how disabilities affect their lives. As a result, few governments have a dependable guide for allocating resources to support and assist children with disabilities and their families.

For many children with disabilities, exclusion begins in the first days of life with their birth going unregistered. Lacking official recognition, they are cut off from the social services and legal protections that are crucial to their survival and prospects. Their marginalization only increases with discrimination.

“For children with disabilities to count, they must be counted—at birth, at school and in life,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

The report lays out how societies can include children with disabilities because when they play a full part in society, everyone benefits. It calls for measures to fight discrimination among the general public, decision-makers and providers of such essential services as schooling and health care. It states that more efforts to support integration of children with disabilities would help tackle the discrimination that pushes them further into the margins of society. For instance, inclusive education broadens the horizons of all children even as it presents opportunities for children with disabilities to fulfill their ambitions. The report also emphasizes the importance of involving children and adolescents with disabilities by consulting them on the design and evaluation of programs and services for them.

“When you see the disability before the child, it is not only wrong for the child, but it deprives society of all that child has to offer,” said Lake. “Their loss is society’s loss; their gain is society’s gain.”

Children with disabilities and their communities would both benefit if society focused on what those children can achieve, rather than on what they cannot do. Concentrating on the abilities and potential of children with disabilities would create benefits for society as a whole, says the report.
